Summer Facilities Staff

Our Facilities positions have been filled for summer 2017. If you are interested in being on a waitlist, please fill out the application.

Love the idea of working at camp but looking to serve in a more ‘behind-the-scenes’ role? This is your job! We hire up to 2 people each summer to work on our Facilities Team. In this role, you will deliver, serve and clean up meals twice daily to our middle and high school campers; you will also assist with routine facilities maintenance and cleaning.

What are we looking for in a facilities applicant? A demonstrated track record of servant-leadership, flexibility, a strong work ethic, a sense of humor, spiritually maturity, and a willingness to jump into any job assigned! We also ask new facilities staff members to work two Saturdays in either April or May as part of their training.

We prefer staff who are 18 or older, with a driver’s license and available to work the entire summer, from Staff Training (May 30-June 16) through Summer Camp (June 18-August 4). Camp Highroad pays a minimum of $1,900 for the summer ($2,100 for those who are or become lifeguard certified).

Summer Kitchen Staff

Camp Highroad is looking for summer kitchen staff to join our team. During the summer you will be an important member of a team of people serving 15 meals to hundreds of children each week at several locations on camp. This is a great opportunity to serve others and gain hands on experience in a fast paced, friendly, exciting and fun environment.

The ideal candidate is a team player, that works independently, is responsible, a self- motivator, teachable, punctual, an effective communicator, pays attention to detail, has ability to multi-task, servant-hearted, aged 19-25 and is a follower a Jesus Christ.

Responsibilities may include: supervising and coordinating meals, ensuring quality of food, assisting in prep work, ensuring high- kitchen standards, organizing kitchen and inventory, ensuring kitchen is clean.

Position begins June 5 and ends August 11 with possible extension
This is a full-time position (Sunday Dinner –Friday Lunch)
Compensation minimum: $3,000 and possibility of room and board on site

KITCHEN STAFF APPLICATION

Summer Clinic Staff

Every summer, Camp Highroad hires two to three qualified nurses or nursing students to care for our campers and staff. This team manages the Clinic to provide all health-related services, including medicine management & distribution, communication with parents regarding camper health status, basic first aid, and evaluation of campers/counselors for off-camp care.

Certain times of the day are very busy (mealtimes and before bedtime), while other times are not busy. The on-duty nurse is expected to be available via phone or at the clinic during the duty shift. Common ailments include cuts and scrapes, sprained ankles, headaches, coughs, stomach pain, sore throats, allergies, colds, and cramps. Campers or staff with serious ailments or injuries are transported to local urgent care or hospital by a family member or by ambulance.

The ideal candidate is age 20-28, with strong background of medical and first aid experience. This person is also a spiritually maturing Christian who enjoys children and teenagers, who can work well under pressure, who is flexible and can think on their feet, who has a strong work ethic, and who is an effective communicator.

We prefer staff who are available to work the entire summer, from Staff Training (May 30-June 16) through Summer Camp (June 18-August 4). We also ask new clinic staff to work two Saturdays in either April or May as part of their training. Camp Highroad pays a minimum of $2,700 for the summer ($3,000 for those who are or become lifeguard certified). Room and board are provided during summer camp; clinic staff are expected to live on-site from Sunday through Friday.

Summer Program Staff

Our Programs Team consists of 6 cross-trained staff who facilitate activities for our day visitors and our residential campers. On this team, you will work with groups ranging from ages 5 to 15 and you will be trained to facilitate the following programs: Outdoor Education classes, team challenge (low ropes), high ropes, canoes, creek hike, rockwall, Mountain Boarding, and archery. You will also be expected to assist with facilities and landscape maintenance as assigned.

Who do we invite to join our Programs Team? Those who demonstrate spiritual maturity, a strong work ethic, hard-core flexibility, a love of adventure and fun, willingness to jump into any job assigned, a sense of humor, servant-hearted leadership, and a good rapport with those ages 5-15! Our Programs Team leads most of our water programming, so we prefer those who are either currently lifeguard certified or who are able to pass our lifeguard certification course. You should also be comfortable with heights, as our Programs staff lead many of our high ropes sessions.

Program Staff (Spring/Fall)

All Part-Time positions are currently full for 2015.
However Spring and Fall Part-Time positions are still available.

Camp Highroad is always looking for part-time support staff, who live locally, to assist us in our Outdoor Education Program and Challenge/Ropes Course. Part-time positions are available year-round, with most hours available in the spring and fall on Saturdays. Patience, energy, friendliness, good rapport with kids, and a solid work-ethic are required.

Highroad will provide training on all programs and classes for which we have need of instructors and facilitators. Part-time staff must be at least 18 years old and have graduated from high school. A background check will be required. PART TIME STAFF APPLICATION

Summer Camp Naturalist

This position has been filled for 2017. If you are interested in being considered for other positions, please fill out the application.

Every summer, we run multiple simultaneous nature programs and an outdoor education afternoon for our summer campers. This position would assist our Programs Manager with the following responsibilities:

1) Care for the animals in the Nature Center and keep the Nature Center and Program Supply Building in good order.
• Possible animals include: geckos, multiple gerbils, a black rat snake, mice (for the snake), tree frogs, and possibly a bird
• Duties include feeding, watering, changing bedding, heat lamp adjustment, etc.
2) Work directly with the YMCA day camp
• Lead programs every morning from 9.50am-12pm for the YMCA day camp
• Train 3-4 other Camp Highroad staff on how to lead various activities for the day camp
• Serve as the point person for fellow Camp Highroad staff to start activities promptly at 9.50am and answer questions regarding program or weather changes
• Lifeguard as necessary
3) Assist with training program staff
• Teach fellow staff how to lead Camp Highroad Outdoor Education programming weekly
• Ensure high quality of Camp Highroad Outdoor Education programs; should be committed to excellence in own presentations and in encouraging excellence in fellow staff’s presentations
4) Helping with program packouts for the YMCA, Nature Programs, and our summer camp Program.
• Clean, fix, and restock supplies daily
• Demonstrates initiative to check supplies regularly on own, without needing prompting by the Programs Manager
5) Assisting with our summer camp Outdoor Education Day
• Rotate between groups to ensure lessons are running smoothly
• Assist Programs Manager with cooking the Dutch Oven dinner for 60-80 people daily; goal would be for this position to lead cooking by the end of the summer
• Lead transition to indoor shelter during severe weather
• Assist with emergency situations; assist with driving campers to clinic as necessary (must be 21 or older for this task)
• Assist Programs Manager with other duties as requested

The ideal candidate is age 20-27, with previous camp or similar experience, and available to work the entire summer, from Staff Training (May 30-June 16) through Summer Camp (June 18-August 4). There is opportunity to begin training and work as early as April 1, for additional pay.


SUMMER NATURALIST APPLICATION

Summer Camp Videographer

Our Videographer position has been filled for summer 2017. If you are interested in being on a waitlist, please fill out the application.

Are you passionate about using video to spread the good news about Jesus? Are you looking for a summer experience that could give you both internship credit and the opportunity to use your film skills for Christian ministry? Camp Highroad might be the perfect fit for you. Each summer, we hire a videographer to produce a weekly recap video that is shown to our campers every Friday.

The ideal candidate has 1+ years of experience creating videos, is responsible, self-motivated and can work independently, communicates effectively both in person and through film, is a hard worker, punctual and creative, enjoys working with children age 7-17, and is a follower of Jesus. Candidates must submit at least 3 samples of their previous work. Candidates should also be available to work the entire summer, from Staff Training (May 30-June 16) through Summer Camp (June 18-August 4).

Our videographer works independently for 95% of the summer, reporting directly to the Summer Camp Manager and the Camp Director. Samples of previous camp videos are available on our YouTube page: www.youtube.com/CampHighroad. Weekly videos should be 2-4 minutes long and are intended as a weekly recap video. They do not necessarily need to follow a specific formula if the applicant has a different, clear vision in mind to recap the week. Filming begins on Sunday night every week and videos must be completed before 10.30am every Friday.

Camp Highroad does not provide camera or editing equipment but is willing to discuss additional compensation to assist with maintaining candidate’s current equipment. We will provide an indoor, temperature-controlled workspace for videographer’s use. Camp Highroad pays a minimum of $2,400 for the summer, as well as providing food and housing.
